A former Delhi police constable who was convicted of raping a minor and a teenager in a Delhi police station has died, police said on Friday.
Narendra Singh was arrested in December 2010 and sentenced to 10 years by a Delhi court, where he served his time.
A day earlier, his son Niranjan Singh had asked the Supreme Court to overturn his conviction in a separate case.
Singh had argued that he was falsely accused in the case and the Delhi Police had committed a “grave error” in convicting him.
His son, who had been denied bail in the trial, had said his father was innocent.
Niranjan said in a statement on Friday that his father’s death “shocked” him.
He added that he had asked police commissioner BS Bassi to take immediate action against the police officer.
